The Cité des Métiers is a center for resources and information on career guidance, training, employment, and business creation.
With the goal of creating a new visual identity, this key player in the region aims to better showcase its services, simplify access to information for a diverse audience, and improve efficiency in its communication.
How can we approach a visual identity redesign that highlights the uniqueness of the location while also striking a balance with the identity of the international network of Cité des Métiers?
A Shared Brand Identity
The Cité des Métiers label is a protected trademark. Affiliation with the international network of Cité des Métiers requires adherence to a generic graphic charter. Its identity is composed of a logo, color code, and typographic code. Although each Cité des Métiers is free to develop its own identity, it must rely on the association of these three elements.
The Grid System
To maintain coherence with the historic logo, the graphic system is based on a grid structure using the original square shape. The square remains the central element of the identity, while structuring a flexible, modular, and open grid.
Legibility and Accessibility
One of the essential challenges of the Cité des Métiers is to visually segment its five activity poles by offering accessible readability for all audiences. A color code is assigned to each pole to make it immediately identifiable. A geometric pattern complements the color to ensure that the information is not solely conveyed by color, thus improving accessibility. This graphic grammar allows for the creation of a range of visual variations for each pole and for overall communication.
Design of the Posters
Posters are one of the most widely distributed materials by the Cité des Métiers, serving as promotional channels for numerous events proposed and co-organised by each of the five poles. Produced in large quantities, they used to require a significant collection of photographs for the Communication department to integrate into each poster. The insertion of pattern and block variations in solid colors now replaces photos, while still retaining the individuality of each poster.
More Information
The Birth of a Concept
A specific location to answer all questions about professional development throughout one's life for all audiences, regardless of age or status. The concept of the Cité des Métiers was conceived in March 1993 at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie de la Villette in Paris. It was the first career guidance and professional development platform.
In 1999, three programs inspired by this experience and labeled by the CSI were launched in Belfort, Côtes-d'Armor, and Nîmes. The Cité des Métiers in Côtes d'Armor was one of the first to be created.
An International Network
Established as an association in October 2001, the International Network of Cité des Métiers is now growing in France and abroad. It currently includes 26 labeled Cité des Métiers spaces in 7 different countries and 3 continents.
